Initiatives for mental health

Idemitsu Kosan conducts stress checks every year based on the Industrial Safety and Health Act. In fiscal 2022, we surveyed 12,570 Group employees, and the test participation rate was 91.5%. In addition to conducting interviews with highly stressed employees, we analyze each workplace and provide feedback to each department, leading to improvements in the workplace. We also provide ongoing care, including annual interviews with all employees from their first year to their third year with the company. We have also set up an in-house ``Health Support Site'' to support our employees by disseminating information and holding webinars regarding mental health issues during the coronavirus pandemic. Through these activities, we are working to reduce the number of new employees taking leave due to mental illness.

Initiatives for physical health

At our company, we believe that physical health is essential for working energetically, and we are putting effort into encouraging employees who are subject to a secondary examination as a result of their health checkup (secondary examination in fiscal 2022). rate is 89.0%). We also place a priority on measures to prevent lifestyle-related diseases, and are actively promoting specific health guidance in cooperation with the health insurance association.
As part of our cancer prevention measures, we have added cancer screening as a standard part of our health checkups, and have created a system that allows even young people to undergo screening. Dental checkups are conducted at each Complex every year to maintain and improve the dental health of our employees.
We have established an appropriate health manager rate and self-care implementation rate as indicators of health promotion, and are implementing employee health management.

Responding to global health issues

As a company with many overseas bases, our group recognizes the importance of responding to global health issues, including the world's three major infectious diseases (tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS), and is responding accordingly. For those assigned to overseas locations, we provide pre-assignment education on health management (infectious diseases, lifestyle-related disease prevention, self-care), follow-up for those with high stress levels after conducting stress checks, check their health status, and provide support to the individual and their family during their assignment. We provide support by providing health checkups, vaccination recommendations, and health questionnaires.
For employees at the Nghi Nghi Son Refinery in Vietnam, we not only vaccinate them against seasonal infectious diseases (influenza, etc.), but also carry out pest control once a month in company housing to prevent zoonotic diseases. We are concerned about the health of our employees. We also conduct health checkups for residents in the surrounding area, and based on the results, we develop health improvement projects such as tuberculosis vaccination.

Initiatives

Improving health literacy and preventing lifestyle-related diseases

We have established ''Idemitsu Health Action,'' a desirable habit for preventing lifestyle-related diseases, and are encouraging people to take action. In addition, we have established ''health management categories'' based on the results of periodic health examinations, and we are putting effort into preventing the disease from becoming serious, such as by ensuring that high-risk individuals receive thorough health guidance from industrial health staff.

Prevention, early detection, and response to stress-related diseases

Since fiscal 2018, we have been comprehensively promoting 0 to 3 prevention. Regarding self-care and line-care, we are providing hybrid group training in real life (face-to-face) and online, as well as e-learning tailored to various situations.

Measures to prevent passive smoking

We designate the 22nd of every month as "Swan Swan Day" and encourage employees to refrain from smoking during working hours. We also work with the health insurance association to provide support for quitting smoking, such as subsidizing the cost of outpatient smoking cessation visits.

What to do when handling hazardous substances

Refineries/Complexes use radioactive materials in testing equipment and other equipment. When handling these substances, we have established internal regulations based on laws such as the Act on the Regulation of Radioactive Isotopes, etc., and manage them appropriately. By thoroughly shielding with protective gloves, protective clothing, protective masks, etc. depending on the work, and by making sufficient advance preparations such as education and training on work procedures, the work can be completed in a short time and the time for exposure to radiation can be reduced. We are taking measures to reduce this as much as possible. In addition, in order to manage the health and safety of those who handle the product, we prohibit entry into the controlled area, conduct dose measurements at the border of the controlled area (twice a year), and manage the exposure of employees who enter the controlled area (use personal exposure dosimeters). Radiation workers undergo medical checkups twice a year. Furthermore, we ask licensed waste disposal companies to dispose of waste containing radioactive materials appropriately.
Please note that the amount of radioactive materials we handle is not enough to cause radiation exposure in the local community.
