Initiatives for mental health

We strive to detect employees who are easily stressed due to changes in their environment, such as mid-career hires and transferees, early on if they are suffering from mental health issues (by conducting pulse surveys and interviewing health professionals, etc.). We also continue to conduct interviews for all employees who have been with the company for one to three years, so that employees can work with peace of mind. We have also set up an in-house "health support site" to provide information on mental health issues, utilize webinars, hold various training sessions, and support employees through e-learning.
We also conduct stress checks every year in accordance with the Industrial Safety and Health Act. In fiscal 2023, we surveyed 13,619 employees of our group, with a participation rate of 90.4%.

Initiatives for physical health

We place great importance on improving health literacy and preventing lifestyle-related diseases. We are actively promoting collaborative health (specific health guidance, etc.) with the health insurance association, and promoting the launch of "Idemitsu Health Actions," desirable preventive habits. In addition, we have established our own "health management categories" for items related to lifestyle-related diseases among the results of regular health checkups. We use these categories to manage the health of our employees. We are working to prevent the disease from worsening, such as by providing high-risk individuals with thorough health guidance from industrial health staff. We also focus on encouraging employees who are subject to secondary examinations as a result of their health checkups to undergo examinations (the secondary examination attendance rate for fiscal 2023 was 91.1%). As a measure against cancer, we have added cancer screenings to the standard items of health checkups, and have established a system that allows even younger people to undergo examinations. Dental checkups are conducted at each Complex every year to maintain and improve the oral health of employees.

Responding to global health issues

As a company with many overseas bases, the Group recognizes the importance of responding to global health issues such as the world's three major infectious diseases (tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS) and is taking action accordingly. We support employees who are assigned to overseas bases by providing pre-assignment education on health management (prevention of infectious diseases and lifestyle-related diseases, self-care), follow-up for those with high stress after stress checks, health checks, health checks for the employees and their families during their assignment, vaccination recommendations, health questionnaires, etc.
We take great care of the health of our employees at the Nghi Nghi Son Refinery in Vietnam by not only vaccinating them against seasonal infectious diseases (such as influenza), but also by conducting monthly pest control in company housing to prevent animal-borne infectious diseases. We also conduct health checkups for residents in the surrounding area and, based on the results, we develop health improvement projects such as tuberculosis vaccinations.

Measures against excessive work

In order to prevent and detect early mental and physical disorders caused by excessive work, we have set the standard for those who are eligible for an industrial physician interview as "those who work overtime and holidays for a month for a total of more than 55 hours, calculated as regular working hours (7.5 hours per day)." For those who work more than 55 hours, we ask if they would like to have an industrial physician interview, and for those who work more than 70 hours, we conduct an industrial physician interview.

Initiatives

Women's Health

We are working to deepen understanding not only of women but also of men by holding seminars by external specialists and disseminating information on a regular basis regarding health issues specific to women.
We have also introduced a reduced-hours work system that can be used for women undergoing treatment for illnesses or symptoms specific to women, and we support employees in balancing work and treatment.

What to do when handling hazardous substances

Refineries/Complexes use radioactive materials in testing equipment, etc. For the handling of these materials, we have established internal regulations based on laws such as the "Act on the Regulation of Radioisotopes, etc." We take measures to complete work in a short time and minimize the time of exposure to radiation by thoroughly shielding with protective gloves, protective clothing, protective face masks, etc. according to the work, and by carrying out sufficient advance preparation such as education and training on work procedures. In addition, to manage the health and safety of handlers, we prohibit entry to controlled areas, measure radiation doses at the boundaries of controlled areas (twice a year), manage the radiation exposure of employees who enter controlled areas (wearing personal radiation exposure dosimeters, etc.), and employees who work with radiation undergo health checkups twice a year. Furthermore, we request licensed waste disposal companies to dispose of waste containing radioactive materials appropriately.
The amount of radioactive material handled by our company is not enough to cause exposure to the local community.

Exchange of information with external organizations

We participate in the "Health and Management Study Group" and the "Health Day Consortium" to exchange information and share examples of health management and health promotion activities with other companies.
