About Advanced Technology Research Laboratories
As a corporate research division, Advanced Technology Research Laboratories works in cooperation with Innovation Strategy Department, business divisions, business division research laboratories, and Technology & Engineering Center to advance mid- to long-term research and development.
In particular, we are working on developing next-generation materials to realize a resilient business portfolio, and on developing innovative technologies to anticipate market needs and quickly respond to environmental changes in society, aiming to contribute to reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and recycling Resources in order to achieve harmony with the global environment and society.

Research area
At Advanced Technology Research Laboratories, we focus on research and development in four fields—functional polymers, electronic materials, battery materials, and environmental harmony—using the design and synthesis of organic and inorganic materials, catalyst design and synthesis, composite technologies, biotechnology, and physical property and device evaluation as our technological platforms, while also strengthening the fundamental technologies (analysis, interpretation, and computational science) that support them.
Furthermore, since April 2020, we have established the "Idemitsu Kosan Next-Generation Materials Creation Collaborative Research Center" within the Suzukakedai Campus of Science Tokyo, a national university corporation, and are working on the creation of next-generation materials and human resource development aimed at creating new value.
