Chiba Complex

Chiba Complex

Chiba Complex is engaged in the "refining and manufacturing of Petroleum" and "manufacturing of petrochemicals," while also manufacturing high value-added products such as "lubricating oils," "Advanced materials & Performance Chemicals," and "functional resins." This is the largest Complex in the Idemitsu Group. The Chiba area is the most important area for Idemitsu's development, production, and logistics, with related Complex concentrated in the surrounding area, including manufacturing and technology division centers and laboratories, Lubricants Research Laboratory, coal import bases, and plastics research and development divisions. It is a base.

Introduction of Chiba Complex

Overview

Overview

Refinery began operations in 1963 (Showa 38). As our core Complex, we have installed many cutting-edge devices and systems to meet the strong demand mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The petrochemical plant began operations in 1975 (Showa 50). We produce resins such as ethylene and polypropylene. We have Performance Materials Laboratories and Technology & Engineering Center on our premises, creating a production system that is directly linked to user needs.

Equipment capacity

Equipment capacity

Refinery has an atmospheric distillation unit with a crude oil processing capacity of 190,000 barrels per day, and a lubricating oil refinery as Idemitsu's only lubricating oil production base.
The petrochemical plant has ethylene production equipment with a production capacity of 374,000 tons/year, and aromatic production equipment that produces benzene and paraxylene.

By taking full advantage of the benefits of integrating Refinery and a petrochemical plant, we have realized an efficient and integrated production system, from oil refining to the production of plastic materials.

Manufacturing flow

Manufacturing flow

At Refinery, crude oil is heated to approximately 360°C in a heating furnace and then sent to an atmospheric distillation unit, where the difference in boiling points is used to create petroleum products such as LPG, gasoline, naphtha, light oil, and heavy oil. Divided into fractions. Furthermore, it goes through various processes before it is made into a product.
Petrochemical plants use naphtha, LP gas, and heavy oil sent via pipeline from Refinery to produce everything from monomers that serve as petrochemical raw materials to polymers (synthetic resins) for plastic molding.
