Power Development

We develop and operate power plants using a variety of energy sources, including renewable energy sources such as solar, biomass, wind, and geothermal *, as well as highly competitive natural gas-fired power plants. The Idemitsu Kosan Group's history with renewable energy began in the 1970s, when we sought alternative energy sources to oil following the oil shocks. Through the changing times, we now position renewable energy as an important source of energy toward the realization of carbon neutrality society, and are working to popularize and expand it both domestically and overseas.

Thermal power generation
In Japan, we use former crude oil storage facilities to operate highly efficient thermal power plants that use natural gas, which has a lower environmental impact than oil or coal. Overseas, we have invested in two thermal power plants.
