Notice of withdrawal from bisphenol A business
Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Shunichi Kito, hereinafter referred to as the "Company") has decided to withdraw from the bisphenol A business.
Bisphenol A is an organic compound synthesized from phenol and acetone, and is used as a raw material for polycarbonate resins, epoxy resins, resin flame retardants, etc.
In 1991, we commercialized bisphenol A using our own technology at Chiba Complex, and for over 30 years since then, we have been developing our business by striving to improve safe and stable operations and quality.
However, in recent years, the business environment has deteriorated due to excess supply due to the expansion of facilities in Asia. After considering our future business policy, we have determined that it will be difficult to continue our business.
As a result of this decision, we will withdraw from the bisphenol A business and cease operation of the manufacturing equipment Chiba Complex by October 2024.
