The industry's first new phosphorus-free, ash-free oil, idemitsu AshFree, has been developed to extend the lifespan of DPFs in commercial diesel engine vehicles*1

Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shunichi Kito; hereinafter "Idemitsu") will release the industry's first phosphorus-free, ash-free diesel engine oil, "idemitsu AshFree" (viscosity grade: 10W-30; packaging: 200L drum or 20L can) on September 1st. "idemitsu AshFree" is an oil that does not emit ash, which is a cause of clogging in the exhaust gas purification treatment device DPF *2 (Diesel Particulate Filter, hereinafter "DPF") installed in diesel trucks and buses, and reduces maintenance costs by extending the life of the DPF and reduces labor hours and fuel consumption by shortening the time required for DPF regeneration *3. This product will be sold through our dealers.

idemitsu AshFree (20L can)

Conventional diesel engine oil used in truck and bus engines contains metal additives to improve cleanliness and wear resistance. On the other hand, these metal additives turn into ash, clogging the DPF, and causing trouble, which has been a long-standing issue.
In order to fundamentally solve this problem, based on the concept of not producing ash rather than producing it, we have developed a diesel engine oil that does not use metal additives that create ash, using our unique additive formulation technology. We worked hard and succeeded *4.

[idemitsu AshFree features (expected effects)]

1. DPF life extension
Ash does not accumulate in the DPF, extending the life of the DPF (reducing maintenance costs such as DPF replacement and cleaning).
2. Improving working hours
Reduces the labor time and burden spent on manual DPF regeneration.
3. Reduce fuel consumption
Reduces the fuel used for regeneration to suppress the increase in the number of DPF regenerations.
4. Excellent high temperature cleanliness
It has excellent high-temperature cleanliness and low evaporation (compared to our DH-2 oil), and can also be expected to suppress deposits (EGR, etc.).
5. Contribution to the environment
This will lead to a reduction in CO₂ emissions by reducing the number of times DPF is regenerated. In addition, by not using phosphorus, it is expected that catalyst poisoning will be suppressed and the need for catalyst replacement will be reduced.

Since our founding in 1911, we have continued to focus on ultra-precise designs and refined our lubricant technology. Going forward, our company will continue to use this technological strength to contribute to solving social issues, such as improving the working environment and reducing CO₂ emissions.

  • This is a coined word that expresses the desire to exceed the "long life" of DPFs.

  • DPF is a device that collects PM (Particulate Matter) contained in diesel engine exhaust gas and converts it into clean exhaust gas. PM is generated from soot derived from fuel and oil, and ash derived from metal additives in oil.

  • DPF requires regular inspection and cleaning, and when PM accumulates, it automatically burns PM to maintain its performance. Depending on the driving conditions, automatic regeneration may not complete regeneration, and you may need to perform manual regeneration. Manual regeneration requires stopping the vehicle for about 30 minutes.

  • Using our unique additive formulation technology, we have achieved lower sulfated ash content and base number than the "JASO DH-2" (Japanese diesel engine + DPF compatible performance) standard, and passed all engine tests established by "JASO DH-2". cleared.
