Joint development of high-performance materials for all-solid lithium battery with Umicore

Amid a growing need to build a carbon-neutral recycling-oriented society, expectations are rising for the practical application and widespread use o f all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries as a technology to meet the needs for EV-based accelerated automation and decarbonization in the automobile industry, safety, high-capacity and quick charging. In order to deliver and improve the performance of all-solid lithium battery, it is extremely important to ensure the intimate contact between solid particles. Idemitsu Kosan and Umicore will start the joint development of new high-performance materials that combine cathode materials and solid electrolytes, and contribute to realization of such materials. 

Idemitsu Kosan is developing solid electrolytes, a key material for all-solid lithium-ion battery. Idemitsu has established a method for manufacturing high-purity lithium sulfide developed in its petrochemical business, and holds many patents for sulfide solid electrolytes that use lithium sulfide as their raw material.
Umicore is a leading company in the field of cathode materials used in lithium-ion  batteries required in hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and full electric vehicles.

Combining their expertise and technological prowess, Idemitsu Kosan and Umicore aim to accelerate the development of new high-performance materials for all-solid lithium battery to contribute to their practical application and widespread use.
