Cricket Valley natural gas-fired power plant in the U.S. begins commercial operation - Contributing to low carbonization with our first high-efficiency gas-fired power plant in the U.S.
Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Shunichi Kito; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") has started commercial operation of the Cricket Valley Natural Gas-fired Power Plant (Location: Dutchess County, New York; Maximum output: 1.1 MW; hereinafter referred to as "the Power Plant") in the United States on April 17. In December 2018, MHI invested (10% stake) in Cricket Valley Energy Center, Inc. ("CVE"), the operator of this power plant, in order to acquire knowledge of power plant development and market transactions in the U.S. and to return this knowledge to its domestic business.
This power plant is a natural gas-fired power plant located in Dutchess County, New York State, U.S.A. that uses combined cycle power generation *1 with an output of 1.1 million kW, and is owned and operated by CVE. The generated power will be sold through New York State's wholesale electricity market (NYISO) as a rare large-scale, high-efficiency power source in the state of New York, which is a major consumer area, contributing to a stable power supply.
Our company acquired shares in CVE in December 2018 and has been participating in the development of this power plant. Since then, he has contributed to improving business value by dispatching directors to CVE, etc., and has also gained knowledge about power plant operations and market transactions in the advanced U.S. market where electric power liberalization is progressing, and has contributed to domestic business. I am.
Going forward, our company aims to increase corporate value and realize a global low-carbon society by owning and operating high-efficiency gas-fired power plants with low environmental impact.
- Fuel such as natural gas is burned in compressed air to generate high-temperature, high-pressure gas, which is used to rotate a gas turbine to generate electricity. After the gas turbine has finished rotating, the exhaust gas still has heat, and this heat is used to generate steam in the exhaust heat recovery boiler, which rotates the steam turbine and generates a second generation of electricity. By combining two power generation methods, it reduces wasted heat and generates electricity efficiently.
