Words from the award
While exploring the relationship between perspective and distance, materials and images, and ``the visible and the invisible,'' I have been creating works in the hope that I can use paintings to express the uncertainties of things that we commonly recognize.
I was looking at the empty streets as the new coronavirus spread throughout society. Then, I noticed birds flying high in the air, which I had never noticed before, and the way they flapped their wings seemed to know where we were going, and suddenly I remembered a crow that appeared in the Kojiki. Ta.
