Message from the Chairman

I am Shunichi Kito, Representative Director and Chair of Idemitsu. Since its foundation in 1911, the Idemitsu Group has practiced “people-centered management” and built up a history through a stable supply of energy and materials. Amidst the drastically changing environment surrounding energy, our mission and responsibility lie in protecting the global environment in the future while continuously supplying energy that supports people’s daily lives and industrial activities, and promoting these two time frames without misjudging them to implement them in society.
The Group is advancing businesses restructuring toward a carbon-neutral society under its vision for 2050, “Shaping Change.” Since its foundation, we have brought together the “power of people” and engaged in a wide range of fields, with a strong network in Japan and overseas as well as accumulated knowledge and technologies. By taking full advantage of these strengths and collaborating with diverse partners, we will diligently fulfill our responsibility to continuously supply energy and materials tailored to each region and lifestyle.
Investment in the realization of a carbon-neutral society is a forward-looking investment for the future. It is necessary to assess the market trends and technological innovation while advancing the development of sustainable business models. This journey is far from an easy task and requires cooperation from many people as well as numerous challenges. However, thinking deeply and working hard through challenges makes people grow. This is exactly the management objectives of the Group.
Now in these chaotic times, it is essential for us to believe in the “power of people” and mobilize it to achieve change once again. Together with all our global customers, regional communities where we operate, local dealers, logistics and safety subcontracting companies, business partners (including suppliers in Japan and overseas, such as oil-producing countries), and our employees with diverse backgrounds, we will overcome these hardships, which can be seen as a turning point for energy, and continue working to create new value.
