What are Basic Chemicals?
What are Basic Chemicals?
Basic Chemicals are petrochemicals such as ethylene and propylene that are the basic raw materials for plastic products and chemical fibers. It is obtained by processing (cracking, reforming, etc.) "naphtha fraction *" and "LPG fraction" produced by refining crude oil.
We also manufacture products with high functionality such as heat resistance and chemical resistance that are produced through chemical reactions using Basic Chemicals
They are called Advanced materials & Performance Chemicals
.
Relationship between petrochemistry and oil refining
petrochemicals are manufactured using the following process, and Idemitsu Kosan's Basic Chemicals business handles the products in the red frame. In addition, derivative products * such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene are sold through affiliated companies.
Strengths in our Basic Chemicals business
The strength of our Basic Chemicals business is that it is integrated with oil refining. By operating the facility in an integrated manner, distillates and utilities (energy and equipment for operating the equipment) can be used interchangeably. In the future, surplus distillates due to decreased demand for petroleum products such as gasoline can be shifted to the production of basic chemical products, and equipment such as tanks Refinery and factories can be used in conjunction with oil refining. We are also trying to reduce costs.
Additionally, through our Advanced materials & Performance Chemicals business and affiliated companies such as Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. and PS Japan Corporation that manufacture resins that are raw materials for final products, we are able to quickly and accurately grasp market needs.
Group bases and production capacity for main chemical products
We stably produce and supply a variety of Basic Chemicals. Among these, our ethylene production capacity is one of the highest in Japan.
