TARFLON® is a special polycarbonate (PC) produced by Idemitsu. It is an amorphously engineered plastic produced in a unique integrated factory in our petrochemical complex in Chiba, Japan. TARFLON® was the first polycarbonate product to be manufactured on a commercialized production line that was based on our continuous solvent process developed in 1969. Since then, this outstanding technological development has been licensed around the world.
TARFLON® is an amorphous plastic designed to have high optical, mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. Thanks to these extraordinary developments, TARFLON® boasts high impact resistance, outstanding dimensional stability and excellent transparency.
TARFLON® is now used in wide range of applications such as housewares; office equipment such as fax machines, printers and scanner parts; information technology equipment including PC monitor and laptop housings; and optical media. TARFLON® LC1500, in particular, is recognized as the world's leading standard for light guide panel parts used in color LCD backlighting applications for mobile phones. TARFLON® has many unique grades, and new ones fitting more applications are being developed in our R&D center in anticipation of future customer needs.

The light-guiding grades of TARFLON® provide exceptional transparency for personal computers as a result of Idemitsu's innovative compounding technology. This development is perfect for LCD backlight guide panels requiring heat resistance and strength, as well as light guiding components in the automobile and the illumination sectors.
High Reflection and Light-shielding Grades
Idemitsu added titanium dioxide to control the reflective properties using Idemitsu's own PC degradation prevention technology, giving of TARFLON® grades a high degree of light reflectance and light blocking.
