Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Keiji Kimura, hereinafter referred to as "Mitsubishi Estate") and Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhisa Nakano, hereinafter referred to as "Idemitsu Kosan") hereby announce that the two companies have agreed today on the supply of fresh green power provided by Idemitsu Kosan to the Shin-Marunouchi Building (1-5-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku) owned by Mitsubishi Estate.
There have been cases of The Green Power Certification System*1 in the past in Japan. But this is the very first case where an electric power user directly receives 100% renewable fresh green power*2 in this country.
Idemitsu Kosan will supply fresh green power generated by Futamata Wind Development Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Rokkasho-mura, Kamikita-gun, Aomori Prefecture) and other generators directly to the Shin-Marunouchi Building starting from April 2010 through Wheeling Service*3. Mitsubishi Estate will entirely use fresh green power for all the electric power required at the Shin-Marunouchi Building, thereby reducing the building's CO2 emissions by approximately 20,000 tons per year.
Mitsubishi Estate and Idemitsu Kosan will also consider participating in the Regional Cooperation to Promote Renewable Energy scheme promulgated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Chiyoda Ward, and Aomori Prefecture.
*1 Green power is electricity generated by renewable energies such as wind power, solar power and biomass (biological resources) and is considered to have environmental value added in addition to the value of the electricity itself. This environmental value added is separated from the value of the electricity and sold and purchased in the form of acertification of Green Power. The Green Power Certification System is a system in which users are assumed to have used green power by combining regular electric power with this certification
*2 This green power is directly transmitted to users from the generators. These users actually use such electricipower They are not just assumed to have used green electricity as in the case of theGreen Power Certification System.
*3 A supply system where electricpower is sent to users from the generators by using the transmission and distribution networks owned and operated by other electricity companies.
