Success in developing a new film, XAREC
- Provide a sample of a XAREC film for starting up the commercial commercialization -

Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.(Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan, President: Kazuhisa Nakano) and Idemitsu Unitech Co., Ltd.(Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan President: Saiji Tsukahara) have succeeded in developing a film of syndiotactic polystyrene resin(Trade name: XAREC.)
We starts sample offers to our customers for commercialization of XAREC film in future.
(XAREC is an Idemitsu Kosan's trade mark of engineering plastic called syndiotactic polystyrene.)

Since now, to develop a new market for XAREC, Idemitsu Unitech Co., Ltd. had installed a large-sized biaxially-oriented film molding equipment in the Performance Materials Research Laboratories, located in the Chiba Plant of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. in Japan in fall, 2009. Under the collaboration between Idemitsu Unitech and Idemitsu Kosan, we have promoted to develop a new film (with XAREC resin). As a result, we succeeded in developing a new film with superior features of XAREC and we can provide a roll-type sample film to the customers.

XAREC is an engineering plastic with low specific gravity, featuring heat-resistance, electrical properties, moisture protection and fissility. Until now, XAREC has been widely used to the electric components of automobiles and high-quality household electrical appliances fields.

The success of this XAREC film's development expands the possibility of the new market development (for XAREC) in the fields of the industrial films such as a release film for the manufacturing process used a printing circuit board as well as those of the electric and electronic fields such as an insulation film.

We, Idemitsu Unitech and Idemitsu Kosan, promise our customers to respond a prompt response to our customers' needs by strengthening the fields of the engineering functional film using our technologies from now on.

Idemitsu Unitech will exhibit our XAREC film at "the New Functional Material Exhibition," which will be held at the Tokyo Big Site, starting from April 7th(Wednesday), 2010.
