Announcing the First Japan Australia Joint Concert From ONE ASIA
–Melodies blending together the traditional musical tones of Japan and Australia–

November,8,2017
Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Takashi Tsukioka; hereinafter, the “Company”) will be specially sponsoring the Japan Australia Joint Concert From ONE ASIA, that will be held for the first time in Australia on December 11 (Mon) and December 13 (Wed).
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Japan-Australia Commerce Agreement, and next year will see the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Company’s base in Australia.
To mark these occasions, we will be sponsoring the first Japan Australia Joint Concert From ONE ASIA, which is a musical cultural exchange project that showcases traditional musical instrument players from Japan and Australia, featuring Japan’s AUN J Classic Orchestra (“AUN J”), a group of musicians who play traditional Japanese musical instruments, and an Australian musician playing a traditional Australian musical instrument. The Company hopes to contribute to the promotion of cultural exchange activities between Japan and Australia through this special sponsorship.

The “ONE ASIA Joint Concert”*1 started in 2013 with a concert that combined Japanese traditional musical instruments with Asian traditional musical instruments in order to convey the music that was jointly created to the world. The Company fully supports and approves of AUN J's approach of inheriting the traditions of Japanese music while trying to find new musical ground, and its efforts to respect each culture while trying to jointly develop new melodies.
In this spirit of the ONE ASIA Joint Concert, a concert has been arranged in Australia for the first time. This concert will deliver new melodies using traditional musical tones to the land of Australia through the use of traditional Japanese musical instruments in accompaniment with the didgeridoo,*2 a traditional Australian musical instrument.

*1 ONE ASIA Joint Concert
A concert involving the collaboration of Japan’s AUN J and various traditional music performers from many ASEAN countries. It first started in 2013, and since then has been held in Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Japan, making 11 countries in all.

*2 Didgeridoo
This is a brass musical instrument developed by the Aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia. It is made of wood but is classified as a brass instrument due to the principle of how the sound is produced. It is said that Aborigines made didgeridoos over 1,000 years ago, and they are thought to be one of the world’s oldest wind instruments. They are made from eucalyptus trees that have been hollowed out by termites.
