IDEMITSU sponsors IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia World Championship of motorcycle road racing team and IDEMITSU ASIA TALENT CUP

March,3,2017
Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Takashi Tsukioka; hereinafter, the “Company”) announces that once again it will serve as the main sponsor of IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia as part of its efforts to contribute to the development of motorsports culture. It also will serve as a new main sponsor of the IDEMITSU ASIA TALENT CUP, intended to develop young riders in Asia and Oceania.
Supporting Honda Motor Co., Ltd.’s motorsports philosophy “From Asia to the World,” the Company has sponsored IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia since 2013. All teams racing in the Moto2 class–the middleweight class in the World Championship of motorcycle road racing— use Honda 600cc engines. Promising riders on the IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia team include Takaaki Nakagami, whose achievements include taking first place in the Netherlands Grand Prix last season, and Khairul Idham Pawi, who has moved up from the Moto3*1 class.

The IDEMITSU ASIA TALENT CUP*2, for which the Company will serve as a new sponsor, is a tournament intended to identify promising young riders from Asia and Oceania by having them compete on machines with the same specs, to move on to the challenges of Moto3 and other higher-level races. Through this tournament, the Company will support young riders in building up their racing careers.

Through these sponsorships, the Company will support Asian riders aiming for the top tier of the racing world and, at the same time, contribute to the development of motorsports culture.

*1: Moto 3: A class serving as the first step toward competition in the World Grand Prix for riders aged 16 through 28. Riders use 250cc engines. Most rookies have experience racing in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship. The Company participates as a sub-sponsor of Honda Team Asia.
