In March 1949, Japan National Oil Distribution Corporation was disbanded.

A new system of primary oil distributors was launched.
Idemitsu was designated a primary oil distributor along with Standard, Shell, Caltex, Nippon Oil, Nippon Mining, Showa Oil, Mitsubishi Oil, General, and Nippon Gyomo. It was the only nationally oriented oil company to be so designated, underscoring its equal footing with major oil companies and its refusal to join their company groups.
